Where to eat in Hamburg this year, from the unshakeable Michelin-starred peak to the most exciting new openings.
Hamburg's top gastronomy scene is having a good year. With 16 Michelin-starred restaurants, the city has never been in a better position, and in 2026, the scene will see movement: new locations, new concepts, and a few classics that will remain unshakable. Anyone who wants to eat well in Hamburg, has rarely had so much choice. An orientation by occasion and city district.
The unshakeable peak
When it comes to that one special dinner, there’s no getting around Christoph Rüffer's Haerlin at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg. Three stars, a view of the Inner Alster lake, and cuisine that counts among Germany's absolute top tier. For the grand occasion, it's the city's premier address. Alongside Haerlin, Kevin Fehling's The Table in the HafenCity also ranks among the absolute elite. The three-star chef is known for his internationally acclaimed, highly creative cuisine. Classic, Hanseatic, but no less impressive is Landhaus Scherrer on the Elbchaussee in Othmarschen. Heinz O. Wehmann has been at the stove here since the early 1980s, maintaining his Michelin star with upscale North German cuisine that does without trends. A reliable place for a business dinner or a meal that needs no proving.
The neighborhood addresses
Cornelia Poletto has been able to count on a loyal following in Eppendorf for years. Her restaurant on Eppendorfer Landstraße is one of the most reliable establishments in the city and was even nominated as Restaurant of the Year at the Genuss-Michel in 2026. She consciously gave up her star years ago to cook in a more accessible way. The result is an Italian-Mediterranean cuisine that you can visit again and again without it becoming a state affair.
In Winterhude, Koer has rapidly climbed the ranks: opened in 2023, Newcomer of the Year a year later, and a Michelin star in 2025. If you want to see where young Hamburg cuisine is headed, this is the place. Similarly relaxed yet highly decorated are Jellyfish between Sternschanze and Eimsbüttel for fish and seafood, and Haebel in St. Pauli, the neighborhood's first Michelin-starred restaurant.
The cocktail institution
For a drink before or after, there's an address in Hamburg that has been listed in the World's 50 Best Bars for years: Le Lion on Rathausstraße, not far from the City Hall. Behind an unassuming door with a doorbell awaits the birthplace of the Gin Basil Smash. World-class bar culture, perfect for the end of a theater evening.

The New Openings 2026
This year, the Michelin Guide has added three new Hamburg restaurants: Cyn Cyn on Eppendorfer Weg, featuring Chinese cuisine; Gassenhauer on Kastanienallee, serving Viennese classics; and Jfk on Lagerstraße. The latter offers a multi-course menu under the motto „F*ck Off Fine Dining“ in the pink-tiled fireplace room of the Bullerei. Top-tier cuisine without stuffiness – exactly the vibe many are looking for right now.
Those who prefer a Mediterranean flair will find it at Övelgönne's Elbe beach, where Illeta Mallorqui has opened, offering Mallorcan cuisine with a view of the harbor cranes. And a fresh wind is blowing in HafenCity, where the former Michelin-starred restaurant Bianc has become the new restaurant Buoy.
