Back to nature
Materials are allowed to act again in their natural appearance. Where polished marble surfaces previously dominated, travertine, troweled natural stone, and solid oak planks are now making a comeback. The use of materials is more understated than loud, with natural patina counting for more than high gloss.
Particularly in demand right now are wide, oiled oak floorboards with a distinct grain, as well as natural stones whose surfaces are allowed to change over the years.
Courage to Color
The era of greige tones is drawing to a close. Bold colors are in demand again. Three color worlds can be observed: Classic, muted tones – from subtle green to dark Bordeaux – dominate libraries, dining rooms, and representative spaces. In bathrooms and bedrooms, on the other hand, warm neutral colors are gaining ground, such as sand, terracotta, or linen white. Off-whites are also on the rise, meaning shades with pigments instead of pure white. Anything that appears clinical is being avoided.
Light as a design principle
Light is increasingly understood as an important design element and is integrated into the room and living concept from the outset. Modern light sources are on-trend, allowing not only brightness but also color temperature to be controlled. Indirect wall lighting and floor lamps are increasingly replacing ceiling lights, creating moods and lighting accents.
Custom carpentry solutions for the kitchen
Craftsmanship and natural materials are also in high demand for Hamburg kitchens. Kitchen interiors custom-made by Hamburg carpenters are increasingly competing with established premium mass-produced manufacturers. Oiled rather than lacquered oak fronts, countertops made of natural stone such as travertine, granite, or marble are used. Integrated extractor hoods and high-quality brass fittings complete the harmonious picture.
Cozy bathrooms
Bathrooms in Hamburg's premium properties are becoming increasingly spacious and comfortable. A freestanding tub, art on the walls, and perhaps even an armchair turn the bathroom into a personal sanctuary. For materials, handmade Zellige tiles, often from Morocco, polished concrete, and sandblasted natural stones are dominant. Large mirror surfaces and chrome fixtures are less on-trend. Brushed brass or bronze are in demand.
Digital technology is making its way in
Smart home technology is increasingly making its way into Hamburg's houses and apartments. Functionality takes precedence over the technology itself. Speakers, sensors, and control elements are therefore often discreetly integrated into the architecture.
